Transforum ist ein Zusammenschluss von Vertretern aus Praxis und Lehre im Bereich Übersetzen und Dolmetschen. Gegründet vor 20 Jahren unter dem Namen Koordinierungsausschuss (KA) „Praxis und Lehre“ dient Transforum dem Dialog im Bereich der Translation.
Transforum hat zum Ziel, den Informationsfluss in beide Richtungen zu fördern, um die Qualität von Übersetzungs- und Dolmetschleistungen zu optimieren. Im Mittelpunkt stehen:
- Der Austausch von Informationen zwischen Praxis und Lehre über die Anforderungen des Marktes und Entwicklungen in der Ausbildung.
- Die Erarbeitung von Stellungnahmen zu Entwicklungen im Markt und in der Ausbildung zur frühzeiti¬gen Information des Berufsstandes.
- Die Erarbeitung bildungspolitischer und strategischer Leitlinien und die Mitwirkung bei deren Umsetzung.
- Die Diskussion und Umsetzung von Anregungen aus den Berufsverbänden der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer.
- Die Information der Öffentlichkeit über die Aus- und Fortbildung von Übersetzern und Dolmetschern und deren Bedeutung für die multilinguale und multikulturelle Kommunikation.
Der vorliegende Jubiläums-Band enthält eine Vielzahl von Beiträgen zu diesen Aspekten und unterstreicht damit den vielschichtigen Anspruch von Transforum.

Transforum is an association of representatives from practice and from teaching in the areas of translation and interpretation. Founded 20 years ago under the name ‘Co-ordination Committee ‘Practice and Teaching’, Transforum serves the cause of dialogue in the field of translation.
The aim of Transforum is to encourage the flow of information in both directions in order to optimise the quality of work in translation and interpretation. Central concerns are:
- To exchange of information between practitioners and teachers about the demands of the market and developments in training.
- To gather opinions on developments in the market and in training in order to provide timely information to the profession.
- To develop guidelines for educational policy and strategy, and to co-operate in their implementation.
- To discuss and implement proposals from the professional associations of interpreters and translators.
- To inform the general public about the training and career development of translators and interpreters and their importance in multilingual and multicultural communication.
This anniversary volume contains a wide range of essays on these aspects, emphasising Transforum’s varied role.
